Project Title:

"Climate-Smart Agricultural Practices for Food Nutrition and Water Security" Training to Agriculture Extension Department Punjab

The primary purpose of this assignment is to contribute to the capacity development of various stakeholders in the Vehari and Okara districts of Punjab. These stakeholders include implementing partner staff, government officials, and progressive growers, with a special emphasis on the inclusion of women. The overarching objective is to empower these individuals through targeted training sessions. By enhancing the knowledge base of smallholders, the assignment aimed to bolster their economic resilience, leading to more secure and resilient livelihoods.

Additionally, the focus extends to improving food, nutrition, and water security in the targeted regions. Climate-Smart Maize Culture: In-depth coverage of innovative and sustainable practices in maize cultivation, emphasizing climate-smart techniques. Topics included resilient crop varieties, efficient water management, soil health, and integrated pest management tailored to the regional context. Climate-Smart Potato Culture: Comprehensive training on climate-smart approaches to potato cultivation, encompassing the best practices for soil preparation, planting, irrigation strategies, and disease management.

The session highlighted techniques to enhance potato yields while adapting to climate variations. Inception Meeting The inception meeting for Agriculture and Development Professional Training marked a crucial collaboration between Care International and Himat Consulting Private Limited. The meeting aimed to lay the groundwork for a comprehensive and impactful training program. A detailed discussion was to be held to outline the specific focus areas of the training, aligning with the diverse needs of participants. The meeting also delved into the design of pre-training assessments, post-training evaluations, and feedback mechanisms to continually improve the program.

A detailed timeline with milestones for the training is established, providing a roadmap for the preparation, execution, and post-training phases.

Inception Report: HCPL diligently compiled and submitted the inception report, featuring a comprehensive training agenda and a detailed training outline. This document serves as a blueprint for the training program, encapsulating the proposed structure and content. Once the inception report is submitted, feedback was to be received from Care International after the incorporation of feedback and comments. After securing approval from Care International, HCPL proceeded to develop two distinct training manuals—one tailored for climate-smart maize culture and the other for climate-smart potato culture. The inception report, incorporating valuable feedback from stakeholders, undergoes meticulous review and refinement.

Pre-Training Preparation Needs Assessment: HCPL conducted a thorough TNA to identify the specific needs and skill gaps of the target audience, tailoring the training content accordingly. HCPL conducts an in-depth analysis of the training needs based on the profiles of participants, emphasizing the specific requirements in Multan and Lahore. HCPL reviews feedback from previous similar training sessions to tailor the content accordingly.
