Do No Harm Assessment of the "Teach and Educate Adolescent-Girls with Community Help" (TEACH) Program in five districts of Baluchistan (Noshki, Chagi, Qila Abdulallah, Pishin, Kharan)
TEACH (Teach and Educate Adolescent Girls with Community Help), a FCDO (The Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office)-funded project under the Girls Education Challenge (GEC), was implemented by the International Rescue Committee with three other local partners: the Tameer-e-Khalq Foundation (TKF), the Balochistan Education Foundation (BEF), and Development in Literacy (DIL). The project aimed to target 29,000 highly marginalized and out-of-school girls of adolescent age in five deprived districts, namely Chaghi, Noshki, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, and Kharan, of Balochistan province in Pakistan. The project activities contributed to reducing girls’ education-related barriers in Balochistan, which was expected to increase girls’ access to education and improve life standards by getting education through an accelerated learning program through formal or informal education. The project was aiming for girls to have improved learning outcomes, help them transition into formal schools (wherever possible), and gain market-relevant livelihood and life skills. The project has succeeded in building the capacity of 1593 girls in technical and life skills for social and economic empowerment. The main objective of the Do No Harm (DNH)3 assessment in the project areas was to identify the unintended impacts on clients and their community, and identify the dividers and connectors with appropriate mitigation and leveraging strategies in collaboration with communities’ women, men, older people, persons with disabilities (PWDs), girls with disabilities (GWDs), adolescent girls, and other vulnerable segments of society. The assessment was expected to help in identifying and prioritizing the most appropriate and contextualized strategy towards the smooth implementation of project activities with minimum risks.
