Project Title:
Facilitation and Delivery of GAIN’s Youth Leadership Capacity-Building Program
The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) implemented the Youth Leadership Program to empower young people with the leadership, advocacy, and community-mobilization skills necessary for driving sustainable development at the grassroots level. The initiative was anchored in GAIN’s Youth Leadership Program Handbook, which provides structured content on capacity building, community engagement, collective action, and youth-led development. To operationalize this program, GAIN engaged a dedicated service provider to convert the handbook into interactive, practical training modules and deliver them across the implementation period. Beyond leadership strengthening, the program includes grant management and micro-funding support for select youth-led initiatives.
The objective is not only to train youth but to also enable them to conceptualize, design, and implement small-scale community development projects. Through this mechanism, the program fosters practical experience in project planning, financial accountability, and local-level problem solving. The overall purpose is to develop a cadre of youth leaders equipped with the skills, tools, and confidence to influence community well-being, contribute to sustainable development, and act as catalysts of positive social change.
HIMAT Consulting delivered a full suite of services under GAIN’s Youth Leadership Program, beginning with a comprehensive review of the Youth Leadership Program Handbook and adaptation of the technical content into structured, context-appropriate, activity-based training curricula. HCPL designed and conducted interactive capacity-building sessions on leadership, communication, community mobilization, advocacy, and collective action, employing participatory learning techniques and youth-friendly methodologies. In addition to training delivery, HCPL played a central role in grant management and oversight for youth-led micro-projects. This included supporting GAIN in issuing calls for proposals, guiding youth groups during project conceptualization, conducting due diligence, and assisting in the review and selection of proposals.
HCPL coordinated the disbursement of grant funds, ensuring compliance with financial procedures, documenting expenditures, and verifying the appropriate use of resources. The firm monitored implementation progress of youth-led initiatives, provided technical backstopping, and ensured adherence to reporting and accountability requirements. HIMAT Consulting also facilitated regular communication with youth leaders, coordinated logistics, managed training schedules, and ensured the timely submission of all deliverables—including training materials, participant attendance, progress summaries, grant activity reports, and final completion reports.
Throughout the assignment, HIMAT Consulting worked closely with GAIN to adapt content, respond to feedback, and maintain quality standards, ensuring that the Youth Leadership Program equipped young participants with tangible leadership abilities, practical project-management experience, and strengthened capacity for community-level action.
