Project Title:

Livelihood Need and Market Assessment in Three Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Charsadda, Swat, and Lower Dir) Pakistan

The Livelihood Need Assessment in three identified districts of KP aimed to analyze the challenges faced by marginalized farming communities in Charsada, Lower Dir, and Swat. The study provided practical recommendations to support vulnerable farmers in restoring their livelihoods and engaging in income-generating activities.

The assessment focused on:

Understanding the impact of climate change on agriculture and livelihoods. Identifying barriers faced by women, youth, and minorities in accessing livelihood opportunities.

Proposing climate-resilient strategies to enhance sustainable agricultural production and market linkages.

Assessing financial investment opportunities in agriculture and livestock sectors.

This assessment aligned with the European Union's Multi-Annual Indicative Programme 2021-2027 for Pakistan, which focused on Green Inclusive Growth and Human Capital.

HCPL conducted a comprehensive Livelihood Need Assessment using a mixed-methods approach, which included: Desk/Literature Review: Reviewed ACF guidelines, government reports, and international best practices. Key Informant Interviews (KIIs): Engaged stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, and community representatives. Focus Group Discussions (FGDs): Conducted gender-inclusive discussions with smallholder farmers, daily wage laborers, and young entrepreneurs. Household Surveys: Collected quantitative data through KOBO Collect, ensuring representative sampling.

Enumerators Training: Recruited and trained local enumerators for high-quality data collection. Data Cleaning & Analysis: Processed and interpreted data using SPSS, STATA, and NVivo. Reporting & Recommendations: Developed draft and final reports, including policy recommendations for sustainable livelihood programming.
