Project Title:

Need Assessment of Primary Healthcare Program in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA

Pakistan has faced a fragile security situation in the north-west region of the country since 2007, which has triggered massive displacement from conflict-affected areas. Following security operations, the government announced a phased return plan for all TDPs. Since March 2015, 232, 2021 families have been successfully facilitated to return to FATA, while 271,969 families still remain in displacement.

Like other humanitarian actors, Help Age International and Handicap International implemented humanitarian programs to address the needs of the most vulnerable segments of society, especially persons with disabilities and older persons. A mixed methodology was adopted to gather information on the needs of the vulnerable population (i.e., PWDs and OPs) in the four Union Councils.

Secondary quantitative data was obtained from the Multi-Cluster Assessment done by UNOCHA in 2016 along with the IVAP Multi-Cluster Assessment conducted by IRC in 2016. Quantitative data was triangulated through primary data collection using qualitative techniques such as focused group discussions and key informant interviews. Moreover, health services were assessed through Basic Health Units (BHU) profiling in order to assess the issues and needs of health services in these BHUs.
